Bald Eagle

Date: 02/07/2023

Number: 2

7 FEB2023 about noon the adult male was on the new favorite perch high in the black cottonwood along lower Water St. as we walked south; two other birders in a sedan pointed to the eagle and commented on its striking presence; as we returned from the dump station gate an eagle started the CHIT - R - r - r - musical cackle call used as greeting for another nearby or approaching eagle; then two eagles circle directly overhead some 100 m south of the cottonwood - the larger female leading the smaller male back toward the favorite perch; but they both circled southward again in a tighter arc before approaching the cottonwood where first the male and then the female - after a missed approach - landed on near vertical dead branches; finally the female hopped perhaps ten feet with two wingbeats to the new favored perch and all was again quiet; we continued on our walk as the two other birders commented on their wonderful view of now two eagles.
