Practice Report (Any Species)

Date: 02/24/2023

Number: 4

While Spring does not officially arrive until next month, February has provided a few Spring-like (even Summer-like) days.  Then again, it has also re-asserted its Winter status on occasion with sub-freezing lows.  And the flips between the two have often been only a day or two apart.  For example:

Date:4th5th9th12th15th18th22nd23rd
High:50°F57°F72°F70°F
Low:6°F31°F23°F19°F27°F

As for "Signs of Spring," our first event was spotting a Robin, followed by four more on February 9th.  We have not seen any more since.

On the flora side we have had Daffodil leaves (and buds, but no flowers yet) and Snow Drops show up.  And recently, a few yellow Crocus flowers have popped up.

And with respect to precipitation, February is proving to be pretty dry thus far.

As of Thursday, the 23rd, we have had only a half inch of snow (normal would be close to 10 inches) and just a bit less than an inch of rain (normal would be double that).

Finally, in 12 days, we will be headed to the annual PHS Philadelphia Flower Show.  That surely has to count as a sign that Spring is not far behind.   :-)
