Columbus has lost tail feathers, 5 each of flight feathers. But he resumed flying near the greenhouse ceiling, at 18ft, in a corner where there are no obstacles. Protein supplement seemed to have helped since his molting process matches those overwintering in Mexico, albeit 2-2.5 months late, due to shorter days. A research paper that studied birds overwintering in the northern US showed that birds did not complete their molt before departure. At the current pace, Columbus should be ready in the last week of April or first week of May.
