Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 03/10/2023

Number: 1

Around 618am (first light was 554am, sunrise 616am) I heard a ruby-throated hummingbird vocalizing (which indicates another hummingbird is likely present) and saw it nectaring from coral honeysuckle on our deck. I got some bad photos and video before it flew off. About 10 minutes l later I saw an adult male ruby-throated hummingbird nectaring on other coral honeysuckle on our deck. I did not have time to get a photo, but I got a very good look at its throat. It is our first hummingbird in our yard since 13 January 2023 when I saw a female rufous/Allen’s hummingbird and our first ruby-throated hummingbird since 5 January 2023. These 2 early birds were winter residents. On 9 March 2023 I saw what appeared to be a hummingbird in our backyard in the afternoon, but I did not get a good enough look to be sure, or to tell what type - it could have been a lingering winter resident.
