Number: 1

Small male rubythroat stayed overnight went to disk feeder first at daylight, 7;45. Sat on feeder took brief sips sugar water, looked all over upwards. It's 54 degrees.
If we get in the 20's in winter they dont drink the sugar water until sun hits feeders, they can figure harmful. We are back with bubble wrapped feeders again to help.

We see huminginbirds come thru spring, winter without tail feathers compete. only 8 sets with primary flight feathers instead of 10. This rubythroat in photo is going thru what I saw when he stretched on feeder this a.m.

I see hummingbirds growing, molting pin feathers etc. And it's not why heir not leaving from overwintering. It doesn't stop them from migrating. Hummingbirds leave when they want to. It's called inborn instinct. And they follow the equinox of sun in spring, fall to migrate not according to their feathers.
