At 11:30am I went out checking the pastures. It was cloudy, 76 degrees F, 75% humidity, with soft breezes from the SE. The grass was heavy with dew. I saw over the course of 45 minutes four female monarchs actively egg-laying. I also saw some flying monarchs near the yellow thistle patches.
There is more fresh milkweed emerging, so the females are finding a good healthy supply and there are eggs on a lot of the milkweed plants.
It was wonderful to be near these beautiful monarchs ~ always somehow just amazing that they are here. This is a photo of one of the females as she took a brief rest/sunbath (not much sun) on a milkweed that she had just laid eggs on.
