This morning looking out of our kitchen window, I saw monarchs nectaring on yellow thistles in the back yard and flying around the blooming pear tree.
From 1:45-2:30pm I went down into the pastures. It was partly cloudy, 61 degrees F, with 46% humidity, and with strong winds from the NE. At that time I saw 6 individual monarchs (4 females, 2 males). The females were looking for milkweed and egg-laying. At one point as I followed a female, she was captured by a male and they became a mating pair. I will add that photo in a Monarch (Other Observations) report.
I continue to see fresh emerging milkweed, milkweeds with monarch eggs, and new larvae.
This is a photo of one of the beautiful monarchs laying eggs on Ascepias viridis milkweed today.
