Sightings report image

Date: 03/25/2023

Number: 1

Faded female appears to be depositing eggs on tropical, pine needle and giant milkweed but none are being deposited. She is spending more time on each leaf that I recall others spending. I've checked a few leaves and so far I seen zero eggs. Usually by this time of March I will have scores to 100s of eggs. This year I've seen 7 eggs:1 caterpillar survived of 4 that I'm certain hatched, one egg appeared to be flat, I was unable to relocate the other two eggs. I did find another younger single caterpillar. I brought it and the older caterpillar inside. I was unable to get a video to show how long she stayed on each leaf. On a nearby personal weather station the air temperature is 80.2°, wind SSW at .2 MPH, dewpoint is 33.3°F--a beautiful and sunny day.
