Tulips EMERGED
Sightings report image

Date: 03/27/2023

Number: 1

Incredible! The snow is still over a foot deep in some places at Belwin Outdoor Science. This tulip was in frozen soil when we found it emerging Monday morning with one other emerging tulip. By the end of the day we saw 7 tulips emerging.

This project is part of the Saint Paul Public Schools Tulip Test Gardens. 973 students planted 1,400 red emperor tulips at 23 school sites last fall. We are loving this Community Science climate-focused project.

We are wondering if tulips in the city of Saint Paul will emerge and/or bloom earlier than tulips at the ex-urban site, Belwin, located about 15 miles east of the city.
