Barn Swallow (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/30/2023

Number: 1

Observed with binoculars and naked eye flying low over the South lobe of Lake Artemesia in PG Co, MD. Clearly saw the deeply forked tail with an without binoculars. The Barn Swallow was swooping in the air low over the Lake water, apparently feeding in usual swallow style, with other swallows, including at least 2 Tree Swallows and 1 Northern Rough-winged Swallow. The N. Rough-winged Swallow perched in a tree nearby for about 5-minutes; I was able to capture a sound recording which was identified by the MERLIN app as this species. My complete report, which included my recording and my first sighting of an Osprey in this area, was submitted to eBird.
