Sightings report image

Date: 04/10/2023

Number: 1

Columbus, the Rufous Female that had been overwintering in our greenhouse, departed this morning. Yesterday she was circling over Koi pond nonstop for several minutes, as if to exercise her new p9 feather. This morning, she was at the feeder at 11am but was gone at 11.30am. She had been extensively feeding on summer flowers for the past 2 weeks, neglecting the feeders. Also, at times she wasn't in the greenhouse for an hour or two. This week our temperatures are equal to July temperatures.

Columbus has taught us plenty of lessons to make our garden even better for the hummingbirds and made us convert the Greenhouse from a tropical retreat for humans into a home for overwintering hummingbirds/butterflies.

Thank you all for reading her story and showing support.
