Throughout today I had been seeing monarchs flying in our backyard from my kitchen window and when I had brief moments outdoors. At around 6pm I went out to look around. I saw six individuals (mostly males): flying about checking milkweed areas, resting/sunning on leaves of trees, and nectaring from yellow thistles and fragrant blooming trees.
It was sunny, 75 degrees F, with 39% humidity, and a light breeze from the NE. After each of their flying forays, the monarchs often rested on a tree leaf, catching the last of the evening's warm sun rays ~ like this fellow sunning on the leaves of our backyard pear tree.
