Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 04/13/2023

Number: 1

Didn't have my camera along to get a photo. Monarch was flying along a cut field and occasionally landing

[Additional information contributed by observer and added by Journey North, 04/14/2023]:

Unfortunately I didn't have my camera with me to take a photo. But I did have my binoculars and though the monarch was within 15' of me, I checked to make sure it didn't have the black horizontal line through the hindwings which it didn't.

The winds for at least the last 10 days have been rather strong with a southerly component including a number of red flag warning days. One of the red flag warnings included a number of states to the south of Wisconsin as well as my area. And the temperatures since April 8 have been in the 70's and upper 80's. Much warmer than usual for this area.

There are no milkweeds out in my area. On April 13 very little had greened up let alone flowered.

I see now there is another sighting in Farmington, MN.

I am 100% sure I saw a monarch. . .
