Hummingbird (OTHER Observations)

Date: 04/14/2023

Number: 2

I reported our first sighting of male Ruby throated hummingbirds on April 5th. We had several travelers come through and stay for a couple days from the 5th-7th. It then got quiet again. We very well could have had more travelers and just didn't see them. We have 7 feeders strategically placed throughout the front and back yards.

This morning, I'm very happy to report that our two adult males, Sparky and Sprite, are both here, and manning "their" respective feeders. This will be Sparky's 4th summer and Sprite's 3rd summer. Sparky "owns" the front yard and Sprite claimed one of the 2 corners of the back yard. I know their behavior and perches well, after observing them the last several years.

It was SO good to see them this morning! Now, we'll see if one of the juvenile males return from last year. "Maverick" worked very hard to "own" the back patio and opposite corner of the back yard to Sprite. And, of course, I'm watching and waiting for the girls to show up. They are usually a week or so behind the boys.

We love our hummingbirds! ❤️
