Hummingbird (OTHER Observations)

Date: 04/23/2023

Number: 2

There are two males! The new last year bold boy that had our little group of hummer fans enamored probably had also arrived when I made my first sighting report Because I saw two not long after which prompted me to look up past reports and they were right on time to the date It’s impossible not to wonder that they’re related, likely with the same mother But nestlings or from different clutches? She seems to brood twice Did they travel together? If so for companionship, just because instincts triggered timing and route, or one chasing their rival to claim familiar favorable territory first?
I just hadn’t had time for an addendum until now
Note the weather had turned harsh for them Both compared to a mild pleasant 4/22/22 and in recent weeks that raised the pollen human allergies to misery levels Meaning hummingbirds were finding abundance without sugar water
After a stretch of sunny very dry warmer than average temps a heavy round of rain brought a cold front that triggered frost on the 22d, freeze warnings last night, and again for tonight 4/24). So I haven’t spent much time outside But they are looking for feeders as soon as it gets warm enough to fly They’ll find it fresh and unfrozen It’d be nice if they would share the deck That’d sure make it easier to count accurately within my limited field of view
