Loon (FIRST sighted)

Date: 04/24/2023

Number: 2

Like clockwork the loon pair that have made Carter Lake their home for over 10 years have returned! Leggy's parents arrived around the same day as last year's sighting. This year April 24th at 07:30am 2023. Observations this week -they put on quite a show of synchronized swimming, ducking and diving and popping up together! We humans could take relationship lessons from this couple!

So far they are also tolerating the 3 Canada Geese who have been sailing by like luxury liners compared to these 2 runabouts! We have seen this pair literally chase the geese and teal ducks off the lake with quite a show of beating wings, loud squawks and hoots as severe warnings to stay off "their" lake!
Also observed were a pair of Mallard ducks and on nearby Hurst Lake several Sand Hill cranes causing quite a ruckus as they graze on this swampy area that resembles a prehistoric land that time forgot.

We can now breathe a sigh of relief our "favourites" have returned.
