Monarch, Captive-Reared
Sightings report image

Date: 04/29/2023

Number: 1

Saw my first Monarch in Mid March. Had never seen one that early before, always mid-late summer previously. Was outside weeding my flower bed when I found this Monarch caterpillar. I was shocked! Especially as the bed it was in had no Milkweed growing as yet, just clover like weed with yellow flowers and some young Butterfly Weed. I do have a tall Swamp Milkweed growing elsewhere in garden, so fortunately I have plenty to rear this baby. I am thrilled, as I normally do not get to rear Monarchs until August/September!
