Today at 11:30pm it was 78 degrees F, sunny, 62% humidity, with gusty winds. So far today I have seen two monarchs. In our back yard I saw a faded-winged female fluttering around milkweed plants and laying eggs. Then in following her down our driveway, I saw this male monarch nectaring on lemon beebalm flowers (Monarda citriodora).
Both monarchs were lovely and flew next to me at times, making me quite happy.
This is a busy habitat with other butterflies, bees, beetles, and birds. Glad to see these late season monarchs still here ~ healthy and active.
