This was very late for hummingbirds to show up at my feeders. The last four years, they have always arrived between April 19-24th. My neighbors and I have had feeders out since March, but no one had showed up.
I was concerned that it was either that they'd lost their way due to tornadoes south of us during migration, or maybe cutting down some dead trees had confused them. I wasn't sure. On May 2nd, I went and bought a whole bunch of potted plants (like foxgloves and honeysuckle) and placed all these plants near feeders, and then I whistled, and two came within 10 minutes. I don't know if this means they were "lost" and maybe just down the street (?). I've not been able to get a photo or even identify their genders, but 2 of them have been sighted now, and I'm so truly grateful.
