First monarch of the year for me here in St. Joseph. It appeared to be a male, as my husband and I could see the dark dots on the wings. It was a healthy looking butterfly, fluttering about 12 feet off the ground. It flew from north of the edge of our property, toward us over a privacy fence and landed on a flowering tree. It appeared to be nectaring. It stayed with wings open for about 20 seconds, and then flew back the way it came.
