Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)
Sightings report image

Date: 05/12/2023

Number: 3

Girls arrived today, and are at the nectar feeders this evening. Overcast 73 degrees.

This morning “my boy” greeted me at 6 AM, when I walked out the door with his feeder (feeders go inside at night to prevent them from Raccoon Raids:). He proceeded to play and buzz my head with fly-bys most of the day. He also played in the hose water spray around noon, when I was working by the patio.

This game usually occurs in August, I’ve never had a hummer play in the hose this early in the year. Perhaps it’s because it’s very dry this spring. Or he remembers “The Game” from last year.

Native nectar: dogwood trees, cherry blossoms, honeysuckle, lamium, Dicentra Luxuriant, pachysandra, daffodils.

Happy spring, happy everything from the forest.
