Phoebes arrived this morning. This little flycatcher has a distinctive call that sounds just like their name: “Phoebe” over and over again. And their small tails bob up and down.
Usually the phoebes arrive before the hummingbirds and Orioles; they were late this year, arriving almost two weeks after the hummingbirds.
The magical vocalist of the forest, the Wood Thrush also arrived 5/16/2023.
The “Forest Songsters” are now all present and singing. Chickadees, Cardinals, TitMice, Orioles, Phoebes, Wood Thrush, and let us not forget the amazing Frog Chorus, that jingles through the night:)
Happy spring, happy everything, from the forest,
Sanford, MI
