Finally, I've spotted my first monarch of the year. She was a small one and spent a day or so fluttering around my lone surviving native milkweed plant. (Thanks, gophers.) Left me quite a few eggs to keep an eye on. In fact, I'm thinking maybe there's been more than one mama monarch visit, and I just missed seeing them.
