Monarch, Captive-Reared
Sightings report image

Date: 05/17/2023

Number: 1

This lovely male monarch emerged from his chrysalis this morning and was released in the afternoon. He was healthy and eager to fly on this sunny day. He is the last of our indoor-reared spring monarchs. There were 17 in total (6 males, 11 females). All had been brought in as eggs (at different times in the season) from Asclepias viridis milkweed ~ due to freezing or damage. It was sad to seem him go, but hopefully we will continue to see the wonderful monarchs on their amazing migration from Mexico to Canada ~ and back!
