This is so early for a sighting, and the butterfly was flying so it might be a misidentification. There is no evidence of milkweed here, so I almost hope it was a Queen or Viceroy. There are very few flowers open now either - my neighbor does have some annuals - it was near their house that I saw the butterfly in the air.
