Monarch Larva Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 05/25/2023

Number: 12

I have seen 0 adult Monarchs this year, as of 05-28-2023. I noticed 12 eggs on my Milkweed plants approx. 1-1/2 weeks ago and began bringing the egg bearing leaves inside a few days later. Approx. 10 hatched and began eating, but none would eat after being moved onto my indoor plants (which were very recently purchased from Wannamakers, and are in excellent condition, with no apparent issues). I am trying different strategies, but none has worked. Last year we had nearly 100% success with caterpillars once they hatched. Note: 3 years ago approx. 24 Monarch caterpillars were killed on our outdoor milkweed by wasps & spiders - hence the revised plan to protect the caterpillars; and good success the last two years.
