Milkweed (FIRST sighted)
Sightings report image

Date: 05/28/2023

Number: 1

many small milkweed plants (2-5 inches tall) are growing near the lake now. The road crew used to cut them all, but the sign my granddaughter made a couple of years ago (Save the Milkweed) worked! They leave the patches of milkweed until late fall. We often see monarch caterpillars, but the most abundant butterfly - it loves milkweed flowers - is the Great Spangled fritillary.
