I first started planting swamp and milkweed three years ago. My garden is specific to bees and butterflies. Last season, even with abundant and thriving milkweed, I saw only 4 Monarchs the whole year. This spring , with a bountiful milkweed explosion, I have not seen any Monarchs or butterflies at all. Except for one little white butterfly. They have collectively disappeared from my neighborhood. Remington in Baltimore city. I have been expanding the butterfly garden to 3 blocks of sidewalk gardens on my street. Are the Butterflies the " canary in the coal mine?"
