6 late-stage larvae feeding on common milkweed in my backyard. These are part of a batch of eggs deposited in our area May, much earlier than previous years. I usually collect eggs and rear the larvae indoors but decided to leave these outside as I had already collected 27 eggs May 14 (which are now all chrysalises). I hadn't found Monarch larvae surviving and developing outside for many years and was excited to see these beautiful caterpillars continue to thrive.
