just a quick view - our first rufous hummer ever reported in Maine. this hummer flew in the east door of the main greenhouse at Sunset Flowerland, across the large enclosed room, and out the southwest doorway toward the perennial displays outdoors. this robust cinnamon brown hummer displayed no iridescence from the quick right-lateral view we had. rufous hummers are rare in Maine; an adult male was reported at feeders in Frankfort (about 37 miles nearly due east in early May 2023 (see reports by other observers at eBird)). might these reports be the same bird? are rufous hummers moving northeasterly soon to become regular residents?
