The plants in my suburban yard are Ohio natives with a few annuals for summer. Plants bloom from early spring into the fall. I selected plants as pollinators and pollinator/host plants for butterflies. There are varieties of native milkweed plants. The photo is the bed around the side and back of the backyard --plants are arranged by height and native ground cover plant starts added this year. I have three varieties of Goldenrod. There is a Spicebush shrub and Dutchman's Pipeline. I added a bed, not shown, in the shade of my neighbor's pine trees with Ohio native plants, including Trillium and a Jack in the Pulpit plant, Red Baneberry, Meadow Rue, Goat's Beard, and Bellwort. The front of the house, not shown, has a serviceberry tree and serviceberry shrub with other natives--Shrubby St. John's Wort, Blue False Indigo, New Jersey Tea and Thimbleweed Anemone--along with Ohio Spiderwort, Dropseed, and Christmas ferns. The plants came from seeds, transplants, and 3-4 inch pots--I started the gardens in 2005.
