Hummingbird (OTHER Observations)

Date: 06/26/2023

Number: 3

Early this morning, I saw two Rubies, one female confirmed, but I was unable to see the gender of the other. They were keeping each other from the feeder, but were performing a gentle air dance that lasted 3 or 4 minutes. The female had her tail feathers spread quite a bit of the time and I could clearly see the white dots on the end of the feathers. Since the young have fledged, I assume the behavior wasn't a courtship activity.

This evening, the bully older male attacked what I believe is a young male who was hanging out on the feeder perch - the poor thing was clinging on for dear life (over the edge and almost entirely upside-down) while having his neck stabbed. I made some noise that ended the attack. The bully has been kind of nasty all along. He's the meanest I've seen in 23 years here.

At dinner time, I saw at least three at one time (may have been one more). They were busy chasing each other.
