I had a very brief encounter with a Monarch Butterfly this morning.  As I walked past a group of common milkweeds in our front yard the butterfly popped out from the other side.  I think we both kind of startled each other.

It randomly fluttered about for a few seconds and then headed off to the northeast.  Given that it flew out from around the leaves midway up the plant rather than the flowers at the top, my guess is that it was a female, although I did not spot any eggs when I looked in that area.

Weather wise, it has been pretty hazy here of late from smoke from the fires in Canada, although a light rain over night cleared things up a bit.  This morning (~11:10 AM) with the butterfly it was about 73°F, with a dew point of 73°F as well, and humidity at about 98%.  The air pressure was 28.58 inches and beginning to drop with a light breeze out of the SSW at about 6 miles per hour under overcast skies.
