Sightings report image

Date: 06/07/2023

Number: 4

We bought a flowering milkweed and put it in our garden. After a couple of days we noticed eggs on the underside of the leaves. We then brought it into our screened-in porch (away from the lizards) and soon after we saw caterpillars growing and munching away on the leaves. we were lucky enough to witness them pupate, change color, hatch and then release 4 Monarch butterflies.

Now the milkweed is back outside and will flower soon and, if we are lucky, we will be able to repeat what we witnessed previously. We really didn't think that it would be this engrossing to follow all the stages. Especially trying to locate (so as not to disturb) where they were pupating.
