A Butterfly Fly-By

Today (7/10/2023), as I was leaving work at about 11:00 AM (EDT), a Monarch Butterfly crossed my path (flying right to left) while I was walking to the employee parking area at the University Park Airport in State College, PA.  The butterfly was initially headed west at about 6 feet above the ground.  As it flew out over the customer parking lot it slowly arced clockwise and climbed to about 20 feet until it was heading roughly northeast over Fox Hill Road, at which point it was too far away to follow visually.  I typically do not carry a camera while leaving work, so unfortunately no photo.  The whole episode lasted no more than about ten seconds.

At the time, the air temperature was 72°F, the dew point was 63°F, the humidity was 73%, there was a 9 mph breeze coming from the northwest, and the air pressure was at 28.57 inches under mostly cloudy skies.
