There are a few vacant fields in our area where I occasionally watch for Monarch Butterflies because the fields usually have numerous milkweeds growing (for example, see my 7/12/2023) sighting).

Typically, the fields have Common Milkweeds.  But the area I visited today, while it does have Common Milkweeds, it also has a few Asclepia tuberosa.  Today I spotted 10 such plants.  In the composite photo I’m including here, there are shots (1-3) of three such plants, with number 3 including a foraging bee.  (There were also numerous cabbage whites and yellow sulfurs flying about, but no Monarch Butterflies today.)

Photo 4 shows a portion of the field with three butterfly weeds circled in the distance.

Photo 5 is an aerial shot of the area from MapQuest with the field circled.  I estimate the area with the butterfly weed plants to be no more than 4 acres.

When I visited this area today at around 1:00 PM (EDT), the air temperature was 82°F, the dewpoint was 64°F, the humidity was 54%, the air pressure was 28.58 inches with a 5 mph breeze from the west under partly cloudy skies.
