Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 07/15/2023

Number: 16

Today I observed 16 adult monarchs in thirty-five minutes total while carefully watching a wildflower field of about one acre, including this morning, 3 adult monarchs in five minutes (and several other butterfly species) flying around foraging low over field and basking (pictured), and this afternoon, thirty minutes total, the first fifteen minutes I saw 9 monarchs flying, the second fifteen minutes saw 4 monarchs flying, sometimes one-, five times two-, and once three-at-a-time; a couple times spinning around each other, also diving into a milkweed patch, some could be duplicate counted individuals.

The numbers observed here continue to be much greater than last year, and about six acres of additional wildflowers nearby seems to be paying off for the monarchs, hummers, and other species.

13 July: Many monarchs flying over fields and milkweeds early and later afternoon.

12 July: Many adult monarchs flying over fields, nectaring on wildflowers, diving into milkweed patches. Several other butterfly species and a few skippers were seen as well.

11 July: Many monarchs observed flying over grass, nectaring on wildflowers, and on stems basking in the sun.
