We arrived home from being away on vacation for the past week. Our friend, Paul Nielson, was kind of enough to tend to our bird feeders while we were away. He also delights us with his amazing photography. He captured this sweet adult female Ruby today on our back patio. She is one of our Mamas and is actually in between nests at this point. She is pregnant and is definitely carrying eggs. She is one of our returning residents; I can tell this to be the case as she is extremely comfortable with me when I'm out on the patio with her. I wish I knew exactly which one this sweetie is, but we have quite a few returning Mamas, so I'm not sure. Anyhow, she is a beauty and such a sweet girl. She has been working all the flowers on and around the back patio. Here, she is perched on a large 10-12 foot Mock Orange that overlooks the patio.

Upon our arrival home today, I was able to observe her, as well as many others, including at least 2 of our 3 adult resident Ruby males, and several other females and/or juveniles. We've had a combination of rain and heat this week, so everything in the garden is quite lush. Our hummingbirds are enjoying all the fresh nectar from the flowers and feeders, as well as fairly regular showers.
