Monarch Egg (FIRST sighted)
Sightings report image

Date: 06/16/2023

Number: 15

This is a planted showy milkweed patch at Rasor Park. We found the first eggs on 6/16, and later over several days found a total of 15 eggs. We believe they were all laid on the 16th, just not noticed immediately. The next three days were unusually cool and rainy, and this seems to have slowed development. They all hatched on June 25, later than expected. Six caterpillars were found the next morning, the rest of the eggs were "disappeared" but no more cats were found. We captive-reared the 6 caterpillars and released them back to the park on July 23-25. Ended up with four female and 2 male Monarchs.
