Thick patches and scattered plants over 180 acres, many from seed gathered by owner in states from Utah to northern Minnesota, plus other locations in SD. Spraying of weed herbicides is limited and is generally done with a handheld wand to target noxious weeds. Mowing, haying and grazing are limited. Milkweed growing in the landowner's lawn is left undisturbed. Milkweed is seen emerging in spring starting about May 1. Monarchs are often plentiful after mid-July. Other than milkweed, the monarchs are attracted to a variety of wildflowers and some trees, most notably pines. Trespassing is not allowed, but permission is given to look over the area.
