Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 07/28/2023

Number: 22

We spent an hour this evening in our monarch hotspot, 6:00-7:00. It was scorching hot outside at 100 degrees so we headed to the shade of the Russian Olives and Cotton Wood Trees. The Joe Pye was just starting to bloom, Showy Milkweed Blossoms we’re gone, but the Blue Vervain was huge!

Several Monarchs were spotted low on the ground fluttering near our feet in the shade. We spotted 22 monarchs. As we left the area the last one we spotted was vibrant, more so than any others. We both remark how it stood out as different than any of the ones we previously saw.

We had to work hard and wade through milkweed and thistle to see this many. Last year about the same time and at the same location we saw 14.
