Hummingbird, Nectaring from Flowers
Sightings report image

Date: 07/28/2023

Number: 36

This juvenile is nectaring on Monarda x Jacob Kline. Some are on Phlox, Verbena bonariensis, Turks Cap/Tiger lilies, Buddleia x Ellen's Blue and Buddleia Orange Sceptre. Agastache and Salvias are staples. Juveniles are also visiting Gerbera, Emilia coccinia but only staying for a second- either for insects or just a mistake. Nobody is fighting for Stachytarpeta, Cuphea and Cestrum yet. We have these three in a group every 20ft in our 1/3 acre floral section. Due to heavy rains, hummers are staying in the woodlands on cloudy days hunting mosquitoes. Hosta, Abelia, Weigelia, Rose of Sharon are in bloom in the woodland garden. I don't think they are interested in hydrangea. The number is approximate. There could be more but not less.
