From 05/20/23 to 06/27/23 I was able to find 27 1st or 2nd instar monarch caterpillars on my common milkweed plants to raise in my butterfly cages on my screened in back porch. Out of that number, I successfully released 22 butterflies, 11 males and 11 females. Since 06/27/23, while checking every morning, I have not found another caterpillar on my milkweed plants, and I have only seen two females landing on my Lantana flowers or fluttering around the milkweed. Neither female appeared to be interested in laying eggs, but instead would just sit on the top side of a milkweed leaf before moving to another plant. In 2021, by this date, I had found 98 cats and released 79 butterflies. In 2022, I had 10 cats and 9 butterflies by this date.
