Monarch Egg (FIRST sighted)
Sightings report image

Date: 07/31/2023

Number: 2

It’s been a very slow year for monarchs this year! This was the first female we saw that hung around for a long time and looked like she was laying lots of eggs. I’ve only found 2 so far, but hopefully in the next few days they’ll become more apparent.

Interesting note: I have 4 species of milkweed growing in my monarch waystation. All are native to PA. Yet she only seemed attracted to the common milkweed. White and pink swamp milkweed, orange butterfly weed, and whorled milkweed were all passed over, even though the latter 3 are still in bloom!
