The Eastern Black Swallowtail had first arrived on June 2nd,2023 before my dill plants were sufficiently mature to host their eggs. The smoke from the raging forest fires across Canada was terrible here for several weeks and drove all butterfly species from the area. I was happy to see the EBS return late in July (I failed to note the exact date), and I just found two EBS caterpillars today. This one, in its third instar, and also a first instar (a separate report already submitted for the 1st instar).
