Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 08/02/2023

Number: 1

Female monarch ovipositing on showy and narrowleaf. Just before a storm rolled in so I hope eggs were ok.
70’s and cloudy, rising winds.
I think she was here up to a half hour, nectared briefly on Buddleia.
The storm was quite gusty with some hard rain and my narrowleaf forest was leaning way over afterwards. The bumblebees that hung under inflorescences were sadly soggy and tilted. I won’t know how the eggs fared in there.

Apologies to Journey North - I only just read the Instructions about reporting once a week. In SLC it has been so rare to see monarchs that we get pretty excited about it.
It seems like this 3rd or so generation is doing well here, once things warmed and they made it up here after the late wet spring. May bode well for the migrating generation given all the egg laying that has happened here this past week.
