Monarch Larva Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 07/20/2023

Number: 12

Many earwigs and ants were hunting the caterpillars. We gathered 12 tiny caterpillars and put them into 2 terrariums - 6 & 6, for their protection.

They sometimes argued and competed for food and real estate, but overall minded attended to their own preoccupations - munching & growing.

The one in the J position is getting ready to form its chrysalis. It hangs there for 24 hrs. Then, in about 3-5 mins, after squirming and thrashing, its bottom opens up - lime green and it sheds its skin - to reveal the chrysalis.
