Our local Butterflies in the Pass Monarch Festival sponsored a community blitz on August 5. We travelled through southwest Mississippi looking for Monarchs and Milkweeds. We were joined by Butterfly expert, Craig Marks. We noted all species of butterflies/skippers that we saw during our day that was shortened due to the intense heat. We saw 22 species of butterflies but no Monarchs. Of course, there are only a few monarchs hanging out in our area at this time of the summer anyway.
