6 PM, 75F, wind N 5. Not as many as the past 2 nights. Saw one large roost of 400 and 3 smaller roosts totaling about 180. We have been dry until recently in western MN and the grassland is not nearly as vibrant as usual. The goldenrods are coming on strong with the recent 2 inches of rain. Meadow and Rough blazing star in full color but not as numerous due to a dry June and very dry July. Have some abundant and spectacular color in the lower areas of a first time burned prairie remnant on our farm. Enough forbs blooming there to sustain a large Monarch population.
