Saw 6 small roosts totaling about 90 and roosts of 40, 200, and 250. Temperature was 75F, wind SW at 5 at 6:30 PM. Took a quick walk on our grassland earlier and saw 31 Monarchs. As long as there are emerging Monarchs on the native vegetation there should be evening roosts for now. We will see, Monarchs can be quirky.
Mid summer has been dry here and it seems the quantity of forbs is down. When I look at some of our ravines and lower areas they are robust, in full color with much to offer the pollinators. The prairie always seems to provide in some form, recent rains have brought on good color generally.
